An Invitation to Dream Together: Imagining an Indigenous Cultures Square at USP
In 2017, an Opy — a traditional Guarani prayer house — was built at the Institute of Psychology at the University of São Paulo (USP), in the university’s main campus. Although initially designed as a temporary structure, thanks to the strong engagement of the entire USP community and beyond — Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike — the Opy has become a permanent space.
From this experience, the idea emerged to redesign the area surrounding the Opy, creating what we are calling the Indigenous Cultures Square: a space that represents all Indigenous peoples and that can embrace their dreams, desires, and ways of occupying and caring for this territory.
Through this video presenting the Opy and the stories shared about it, we invite everyone to dream with us and help imagine this space — with ideas, wishes, and visions — which can be shared through the form we’ve created.
